Ready, Set, Food!, is proud to advance its mission of protecting families from food allergies with their investment in and launch of preventallergies.org, an important new educational resource to help parents learn about how to prevent food allergies with exclusive content, tools and DIY recipes.

Food Allergies: Trends, New Research, Challenges

May 10-16, 2020, marks the 22nd annual Food Allergy Awareness Week. Food allergies are a growing epidemic with over 6 million American children under 18 suffering from a food allergy --- that’s 1 in 12 children, or an average of 2 in every classroom. And these allergies can often be life-threatening: a food allergy sends someone to the emergency room every two minutes. However, there is still no cure for food allergies, underlining the importance of prevention.

New research shows that introducing allergens like peanut, egg, and milk early and often can prevent up to 80% of food allergies. While this new research can help reverse the troubling trend of food allergy rates, parents often struggle with early and sustained allergen introduction. In fact, in the landmark EAT study, only 50% of participants could successfully introduce allergens early and often, indicating that early and sustained introduction is difficult to achieve at such a young age.

Preventallergies.org: An Essential Resource for Parents

Preventallergies.org helps bridge the significant gap that currently exists between the breakthrough research on food allergy prevention and busy families struggling with at-home implementation with education, tools and DIY recipes. In addition, all of the content on preventallergies.org was developed in coordination with Ready, Set, Food!’s team of leading physicians to serve as an evidence-based and essential resource for parents. Parents can rely on preventallergies.org for much-needed education about food allergies and how to prevent them such as:
