Common FAQs

What is Ready, Set, Food!?

Ready, Set, Food! is a daily supplement that gently introduces your baby to peanut, egg, and milk, the three most common childhood food allergens. Studies have shown that this approach helps reduce the risk of developing allergies by up to 80%, and our system makes it easy. Simply add a packet of Ready, Set, Food! to your baby's breast milk, formula, or food starting between 4-12 months of age, and continue for 6 months or until your baby is eating these foods regularly in their diet.

The 2020 USDA Dietary Guideline Report recommends no added sugar for infants and children under the age of 2, and our product fully complies as it doesn’t contain any artificial additives or added sugar. Our ingredients are ONLY organic peanuts, egg, and milk, and are sourced from real foods that are organic and non-GMO.

When should I start using Ready, Set, Food!?

The USDA Dietary Guideline Report released in July of 2020 states, "Introducing peanut and egg in an age-appropriate form, in the first year of life (after age 4 months) may reduce the risk of food allergy to these foods." Landmark clinical studies found that starting as early as 4 months can help prevent food allergies from developing. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and National Institutes of Health (NIH) also recommend starting as early as 4 months, as do similar guidelines in England, Canada, and Australia.

The longer you wait, the more likely your baby has already started developing a food allergy. It is especially important to start during the critical window of 4 to 6 months, and we recommend starting at 4 months because the earlier, the better. Rest assured starting at 4 months is a safe time to do so, as allergic reactions in babies under the age of one are less severe. If your baby is over 1 year of age and you are interested in using Ready, Set, Food!, please consult with your pediatrician on how to best begin early allergen introduction.

If my baby has an intolerance to peanut, egg, or milk, can they still use Ready, Set, Food!?

Yes. We use very small amounts of each food protein in our packets, so even if your baby has an intolerance to any of the 3 foods (such as cow's milk), it is still gentle enough to use. In fact, the protein amounts we use are equivalent to less than 1 teaspoon of yogurt or cow’s milk, 1/8th teaspoon of peanut butter, and 1/250th of a cooked egg. For most, it is completely okay to reintroduce a food you are intolerant to, and if you find that your baby has an intolerance to any of the foods in Ready, Set, Food!, we still encourage you to give our product a try. Doctors typically recommend reintroducing foods you are intolerant to, and we have a 30-day money-back guarantee should you not be satisfied.

If your baby has a confirmed food allergy to peanut, egg, or cow's milk, Ready, Set, Food! products containing either of those allergens are not recommended. We do offer dairy-free and egg-free options, which you can view here.

It's very important to note that our product is not intended to treat existing food allergies. Once an allergy develops, there is no cure. If you aren't sure if your baby has an intolerance, you can learn more about the difference between a food allergy and a food intolerance here or speak to your pediatrician. Here are the questions you can ask during your visit.

My pediatrician recommended Bamba. Is it better than Ready, Set, Food!?

Bamba can be effective for introducing peanuts, but it is two-thirds fat and is high in saturated fat because it contains palm oil. Introducing your baby to the amount of peanut protein recommended by the NIH and AAP would mean you'd need to feed your baby 70 calories of Bamba per day for 3 to 6 months straight!

Peanuts only make up 25% of childhood food allergies, so you'd still miss out on introducing other common allergens such as egg and cow's milk (both of which are difficult to avoid). The newly released USDA Dietary Guideline Report recommends introducing both peanut and egg to babies starting as early as 4 months old. Learn why you should put down the Bamba and pick up Ready, Set, Food! in our blog here.

Why can't I do early allergen introduction myself?

You can introduce allergenic foods to your baby on your own using any method, though it’s important to note that in order for early allergen introduction to be effective, these foods must be fed frequently (2-7 times a week for several months). Parents often have trouble consistently feeding these foods to their babies - in fact, over 50% of parents in the clinical trials quit early and did not see any benefit. Ready, Set, Food! takes the guesswork out of allergen introduction (e.g. determining how much of each allergenic food to give your baby), and our convenient daily packets make it easy to not only feed the foods once but include them in your baby's regular diet.
